What is the relationship between 1960s American graphic design & 1960s British graphic design?
I am interested particularly in the 1960s, not just because that is where our book starts, but more because that is where the true design community and passion ignited. Communicate mentioned that the language of design and typography is primarily rooted in the 60’s music promotions and the counterculture community that inspired a fiery revolution in all ranges of art.I will be informing the American Pop Artist, Evelyne Axell and Mel Ramos is famous for his 1960’s paintings of Pin-up calendars and magazines. As for British designer I have not chosen a specific one because there are a lot. The context and clarity would be from many album cover like the Clash, the Beatles, one we saw at V.O. house with the pixies. But possibly work with some design that they use to clean up London with a graffiti feel inspired. Design was then at this time given more of a voice, and became a true method of visual communication. I wonder if the American youth culture was at the same point in their lives, enhanced and inspired by rebellion and Modern attributes in the same way that the British was. And if so, did these two countercultures feed off of one another to create this greater concept of design? What are the similarities? I’m interested to find out more. Id like to create ways between music, design and art together. Id like to create to have a series of 4 poster, 2 of them American 1960’s based and the other 2, 1960s British design based based on everything I have seen and learned about on both types of design in London and in the states.
